Pandit Family

The present head of the family is Rao Bahadur Ramkrishna Rao pandit, who has been a distinguished member of the Provincial Civil Service, acting as Dawn of Nandgaon and Superintendent of Bastar. His eldest son, Vasudeo Rao Pandit, is a barrister and has received the title of Rao Bahadur and a Kaisar-i-Hind medal. His younger son is also a barrister. Rao Bahadur Rajram Sitaram Dikshit belongs to one of the Nagar Brahman families who migrated from Gujarat to Nimar. His father was a prominent merchant in Nimar and undertook journeys to Bombay for commercial purposes before the railway was built. On one of his journeys during the Muting he fell in with Tantia Topi’s army and was mulcted of his merchandise. Rajaram Dikshit managed three famine camps in Nagpur in 1900 with great success, and has made liberal donations to other public objects, He is an Honorary magistrate and a member of the municipality. The Jamdar family were’ keepers of the Wardrobe’ to be the Bhonslas, as their name signifies. Their present representative, Yado Rao Jamdar, is a Munsiff and holds the villages of Palsat in Umrer tahsil as a revenue free grant. The kalikar family were ‘Keepers of the Privy Purse’, and after the annexation were employed as Superintendents of the Treasury by the British Government. Vithal Rao kalikar is a Munsiff and has a grant of land.
