CHANDRAPUR: Two women Naxalites - Mayuri Bhagat and Anuradha Sonule - wanted for spreading Naxal ideology in Chandrapur since 2008, were brought here from Nagpur central jail on Wednesday for interrogation. The duo were arrested by ATS in Pune couple of months ago. Both the accused were produced before the court on Thursday and were remanded to police custody till Monday, police sources said.

Anuradha and Mayuri were key accused in the case registered against 19 accused Naxals after busting of urban module of Naxal nexus in district in January 2008.

On January 6, 2008, police had arrested Manoj Sonule, a hardcore Naxalite, from Ramnagar in Chandrapur. This arrest led to massive police operation to crack urban module of the Naxalites operating in Chandrapur and adjoining Wani tehsil of Yavatmal district. The month-long operation exposed the Deshbhakti Yuva Manch (DYM) - alleged front organisation of Naxalites - and several well-groomed underground cadres of Chandrapur Area Committee of CPI (Maoist) were arrested.

Twenty persons were booked but nine remained out of the reach of the police. Surprisingly, few days before filing of charge-sheet, police dropped all the charges against Vinayak Sonule for lack of evidences. Vinayak was released. Anuradha is the sister of main accused Manoj Sonule.
