Nagpurians to get ZLS refund

NAGPUR: Even though zero load shedding (ZLS) is history for Nagpurians, they have to settle accounts with power supplier MSEDCL. The audit report released by the company shows that ZLS surcharge paid by consumers in July-September 2010 period was 6.41 paise per unit excess. Similarly in the October-December 2010 period it was 50.91 paise per unit more.MSEDCL collected Rs 17.55 crore excess from Nagpur consumers as ZLS surcharge. It has to be refunded by the company as per orders of Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).Nagpurians paid 51 paise per unit ZLS surcharge from December 2009 until the audit report for December 2009 to March 2010 period was out. It showed that during this period consumers had been charged 12.36 paise per unit less. Consumers paid at 63.36 paise per unit until audit of April-June period was done. MSEDCL was asked to pay a refund of 11.75 paise per unit. The surcharge reduced to 51.61 per unit. MSEDCL levied surcharge at this rate until June this year, when ZLS was scrapped.MSEDCL should have levied surcharge at the rate of 0.70 paise per unit in July-September period and 45.20 paise per unit between October and December 2010. The audit of January-March 2011 and April-June 2011 quarter is yet to be done. MSEDCL sources say that consumers have been overcharged in these six months and will get a refund in the coming months.
