Mumbai blasts: NIA team raids house of two IM suspects in Ranchi

RANCHI: A three member team of National Investigating Agency (NIA) on Thursday midnight raided residences of two Indian Mujahideen suspects in connection with Mumbai terror blasts.

The three member team was led by VVS Murthy raided the residences of one Danish Riyaz alias Saafi alias Asfaque Iqbal and his close associate, Manzar Imamuddin both residents of Joda Talab area under Bariatu police station.

The team grilled the family members of Riyaz and Imamuddin for nearly two hours till 4 am in the morning. Sharique Iqbal a relative of Riyaz said that the officers wanted to know about the whereabouts of Imamuddin considered as an Indian Mujahideen operative.

On June 21, last month Riyaz was arrested from Vadodara railway station as he alighted from Secundarabad Express from Hyderabad. He is allegedly an active member of banned outfit Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and figures in the Intelligence Bureau's (IB's) list of wanted.

Israr a cousin of Imamuddin however said that he was working abroad for past two years and was in touch with the family members. Ranchi SSP Praveen Kumar Singh confirmed the raids conducted by NIA team and said that after interrogating the family members the team left for Delhi.

He, however, refused to divulge more details about the interrogation but confirmed that the raids were conducted in connection with the Mumbai terror blasts in which Indian Mujhaideen hand is suspected.

On Thursday evening the team reached the state capital and held a secret meeting with senior police official. The presence of the team in the state capital was kept under wraps by the police and raids were conducted secretly at around 11.45pm.
