Category : City |  Posted Date : 18/07/2011

AKOLA: City Kotwali police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting four members of fake currency racket here on Sunday afternoon. Fake currency worth Rs 12000 was seized from the accused.

All the four arrested belong from West Bengal and were indulging in selling fake currency. They used to lure the people by offering to give double the amount and instead give them fake notes. Police also suspected the involvement of another gang operating either from West Bengal or Amravati in preparing fake currency.

On August 27, 2009, five persons were arrested with fake currency worth Rs 1,07,000. Physically handicapped Ganesh Bhaurani, a resident of Amravati, was the mastermind who was arrested. Akola police on Sunday took one of the accused to Amravati to probe if there were any links to the fake currency racket. The police, however, did not give the names of the four accused.
