ImageSitabuldi Fort – If you walk from Zero milestone down the Stabuldi market, you will find the famous Sitabuldi fort. The foundation of this fort was laid during the beginning of 19 century by a British Army officer Coln.Adam. 185 years back on 27 Nov’ 1817, the valiant forces of freedom fighter Appa Sahab Bhosle defeated the Army of Eeast India Company on this fort and thus initiated the freedom struggle at Nagpur. There are many historical spots in this fort. Inside the fort there are ancient temples of Lord Shiva and Vishnu, there is a squash court and indoor swimming pool also which appears to be arecentorigin. Near the eastern boundary wall of the fort are mausoleum of Nawab Kadar Ali, the great grandson of Tipu Sultan. The fort was later ruled by Maratha Sardar Raghoji I, Gonds, Pendaries and Britishers. Mhahatma Gandhi was also imprisoned in this head quarters of the territorial Army and 18th Infantry Battalion. The fort is open for general public only on two national holiday the 26th January and the 15th August.
