INTRODUCTION

Diwali, or Deepavali, is a highly celebrated Indian festival that carries great importance for people across the country, uniting them regardless of their regional or cultural backgrounds.

The word "Diwali" is derived from the Sanskrit words "deepa" (light) & "avali" (a row), which together mean "a row of lights." Diwali occurs in October or November, depending on the Hindu calendar, & lasts for 5 days. Typically, the 5-day Diwali festival includes Dhanatrayodashi, Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan pooja, & Bhaubij.

One of the core stories associated with Diwali is the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his 14-year exile, during which he defeated the demon king Ravana. The act of lighting lamps & setting off fireworks represents the people welcoming their beloved prince back home with lights.
